Project Overview


This project for Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda was carried out in a live operating environment with a requirement to minimise any degradation or service downtime. Given the live general hospital environment and the A&E facility, access to rooms and areas for upgrade work had to carefully managed and sequenced through working with bed management and hospital facility departments. This also meant ensuring the highest levels of health and safety, ensuring the public community and staff could access areas and rooms safely, ensuring no work areas with members of the public, ensuring no work material was left unattended with strict clean as you go procedures, ensuring dust minimisation via alupods and dust exactors and carefully scheduled and managed works including the A&E facility where there is a constant presence of public and staff.


Callaghan Electrical was responsible for all electrical contract works across the site, management of trades and partners.Key work included:


  • ​Disconnection of existing lighting and emergency lighting

  • Safe disposal of old lighting

  • Installation of new lighting and emergency lighting

  • Modification of existing wiring to include new fittings

  • Modifications to all existing distribution boards in the hospital

  • Installation of new lighting controls

  • Testing, commissioning and production of 'as installed' drawings

  • Installation of new Wi-Fi system in a section of the building

  • Delivered within a tight timeframe

  • Zero interruption to services or patient care

  • Management of trades and partners including decorators, cleaners and painters
